The power that brings autonomy

August 17, 2023

Business Unit Manager at Omexom Brazil Flávio Gomide is deeply passionate about how his work affects the environment.

“It’s very important to me that our projects make a tangible contribution to energy transition,” he says. Brazil has enormous needs because the hydroelectric power plants that produce nearly two-thirds of the nation’s electricity are, on average, over 30 years old. We are actively contributing to the modernisation of these production facilities, including by digitalising them,” This 43-year-old engineer, who is passionate about initiatives that genuinely improve people’s lives, emphasizes.

Three significant projects are currently being worked on by his team: the modernization of the hydroelectric power plant for the Engie group at the Jaguara Dam, the Nova Ponte power plant for Cemig Geraço e Transmisso, and the Horizonte solar farm for Enel. According to Flávio Gomide, there is room in the Brazilian market for the establishment and sustainable organization of two entities, one for the hydroelectric market and the other for the solar market.

“What I really appreciate at VINCI Energies is the autonomy,” he says. “I’m really like a general manager, managing operations and customer relations at the same time. Every year, in September, like the other business unit managers, I present my three-year business strategy, an action plan co-designed with my team rather than imposed from on high. This way of working, specific to VINCI Energies, is highly gratifying and motivating.”
