A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Dutch polling company Fugro and the Japanese transport company NYK based in Tokyo.
A feasibility study with NYK will evaluate the joint operation of a specialist investigation vessel for renewable energy projects. This initiative should boost national demand for geotechnical research vessels.
The two companies wish to meet the demand for the development of offshore wind projects as a sustainable energy source for the country.
This strategic partnership would combine Fugro’s 25 years of technical and operational expertise in offshore wind energy with NYK’s knowledge of the Japanese domestic market, which already operates more than 700 vessels, both locally and internationally.
The development of the offshore wind market is accelerating in Japan, much like it is elsewhere in Asia. This is the third venture in the offshore wind market in Japan since the beginning of the year. A memorandum of understanding was signed last January between NYK Group and Van Oord to jointly own and operate offshore wind turbine installation vessels in the country.
