Norwegian supplier, Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to deliver electrical and control systems to a drilling rig being built in Singapore. The drilling rig will be build in the Keppel yard in Singapore and is ordered by Awilco.
The deal with yard parent Keppel Offshore & Marine is worth an estimated US$ 40.2 million and covers delivery of systems for power, propulsion and mooring for the Moss Maritime CS60 Eco MW-design newbuild semi-submersible unit.
Kongsberg Maritime will be contributing to lowering emissions and reducing fuel consumption by utilising improved systems for diesel engines, high-torque thrusters, mooring, hybrid power with advanced battery technology, thruster drives, drilling drives and energy management. This will intern result in a cut in operation costs.
Delivery of the equipment is scheduled for around the second or third quarters of 2020.
It is the second such midwater harsh-environment rig to be ordered at the yard by Awilco after the Oslo-listed driller recently exercised the first of three options for additional units, with the latest rig being built at a cost of $425 million and due for delivery in March 2022.
