GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT required by our client, an international Construction Company, to be assigned on a Contract basis, located in Norfolk, Virginia.

POSITION SCOPE
The General Superintendent is responsible for managing efficiently the construction of dedicated area from initial planning to completion.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure there is adequate and efficient resource planning (equipment and materials) for the works
- Ensure that the agreed program of works targets for allocated sites are achieved within the budget allocated
- Take ownership of the non-conformances ensuing corrective and preventive actions
- Ensure that the HSE requirements prescribed in the Health and Safety Plan and the Work Method Statements are in place before work starts and for the duration of the works
General advice and co-ordination:
- Co-ordinate with Field Engineers and internal departments including plant, procurement, and sub-contracted designers to ensure that all preparatory activities are being carried out in order to properly plan construction sequencing, staffing and subcontractor coordination.
- Assist with the preparation of scope of works for the subcontractors as part of the procurement process
- Co-ordinate with public authorities in relation to site access and traffic management
- Liaise with the Design Engineers, Methods & Logistics, Plant Quality & HSE Department in the development of the Work Method Statements
Management of Staff and Sub-Contractors:
- Manage the engineers and construction team to focus the efforts and resources where they are most effective
- Is involved in drawing up task sheets for the team
- Work in conjunction with the field engineers, the discipline designers in order to prioritise their works to match the requirements of the construction programme for their allocated sites
Functional Roles and Duties:
- Review project execution procedures for the works
- Responsible for the installation, use and maintenance of work facilities and equipment made available to him
- Highlight his/her own inspections and/or records his/her observations in the execution and inspection sheets and in the lists of inspection operations
- Ensure that all the required documents required to carry out the construction are available
- Destroy or cancel any obsolete document by ensuring that all documents circulated to the teams are the latest revision
- Regularly check compliance with the protective measures defined by the HSE Engineer and ensure, in particular, regular cleaning of work areas, as well as sorting and removal of waste for treatment, in accordance with the legislation in force
- Make sure that stocks and supplies on the project are managed, that acceptance inspection is carried out, and that delivered products are stored and preserved
- Review and approve technical notes for final approval
- Collect the information needed to prepare the final project execution file
- Prepare the purchase and supply requisitions, including in them the specifications and/or requirements of the Health/Safety/Environment Plan, if necessary
- Make sure internal inspections on the Company's own work are carried out, effective and highlighted
Main Deliverables:
- Third party approval authorization/permission documents for the works
- Minutes of weekly meetings with sub-contracted designers and contractors
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Must hold Bachelor of Engineering in Civil
- 10 years in Management experience on major civil works project
- Knowledge and experience of specific construction processes including operations and functional performance
- Familiar with ExCel, Word.
- Highly developed communication, both written and verbal
- Fluent in English with professional proficiency

Strongly Encouraged:
