Grid Manager

GRID MANAGER required by our client, a specialised provider of project development and construction management services, to be hired on a contract basis, located in Tokyo, Japan.  
 
 
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, such as transmission system owner (TSO) and local authorities related to grid system studies and electrical concepts
  • Technical sparring and clarifications with TSO and external consultants related to grid studies, such as steady state analysis, including load flow and short circuit calculations, harmonics analysis and system studies, including dynamic and transient simulations  
  • Prepare design engineering inputs related to permits, such as installation method descriptions onshore, at landfall and eventually offshore
  • Prepare design permit inputs for onshore substations supply and installation
  • Identify potential grid availability and relevant connection points
  • Follow local developments on transmission grid responsibilities and transmission auctions
  • Coordinate and prepare technical evaluation of the electrical equipment within the wind power plants with focus on transmission asset and grid compliance. Review, comment and accept electrical studies from suppliers
  • Maintain the ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and ensure required reports, simulations, models and test plans are delivered in a timely manner  
  • Support the development of electrical system design including submarine and land cable, HV/MV components, protection and control system
  • Support the development and integration of the electrical systems project programme, scope, cost, quality and risks across the entire project lifecycle
  • Prepare and delivery of project management documentation, such as project plans, scope, costs, risks and interfaces  
  • Act as a strong health and safety ambassador and continuously reduce risks and improve safety performance
 
 
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS  
 
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or similar and can demonstrate outstanding results from previous experience.
  • The ideal candidate has relevant experience from a similar position in a large corporate or a consultancy.
  • Transmission system experienced and highly competent HV electrical engineer
  • Experienced electrical engineer, preferably knowledgeable within design and specification of transmission and distributions systems  
  • Experienced user of electrical simulation software such as PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD and/or similar
  • Knowledgeable within the area of substations, cables, HV/MV components, protection setups and SCADA interfaces
  • Practical grid application process experience including durations, liabilities and impact of changes for each stage in the application process
  • Insight in the technical grid codes applicable and overview of likely grid capacities in the relevant areas  
  • Preferably good relations with the TSO's engineers  
  • Excellent communication and personal skills
  • A global mind-set with an ability to communicate clearly and being responsive to local and remote sparring, inputs and requests
  • Perseverance and an ability to prioritise and execute tasks to meet deadlines  
  • Have a demonstrable capability to lead a team during the design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning phases, including internal staff and contractors
  • Strong relationship management and networking skills. Proactive and co-operative way of working and high attention to detail
