POSITION SCOPE
The Electrical Design Engineer is involved in all aspects of electrical design for solar photo-voltaic,
battery energy storage, and wind projects both distributed and utility scale generation. The role
includes a wide variety of diverse assignments such as due diligence, siting, feasibility studies, new
technology evaluations, project proposal evaluations, conceptual designs, detailed designs, design
reviews, performance estimates, and cost estimates.
The position requires working on conceptual and detailed designs, procurement specifications,
design reviews, review of submittals and RFIs during construction, and providing owner's
engineering support. The primary focus will be on medium and low voltage power distribution
systems and electrical infrastructures such as modules, batteries, combiner boxes, inverters,
transformers, collection systems, switchgears, and SCADA system. Design optimization for cost
reduction and performance increase is also required. Additionally, you will promote environmental
stewardship and a health and safety-focused culture within the Engineering group.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support to client development, engineering, procurement, construction, and O&M departments for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases
- Create conceptual design layouts utilizing AutoCAD and Helios 3D Solar Park Planning software
- Create energy models for solar and energy storage power plants utilizing PVsyst software
- Design and draft detailed single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layouts for utility interconnection applications, electrical permits, and construction documents
- Perform detailed electrical designs and calculations including AC and DC cable sizing, voltage drop, overcurrent protection, arc-fault and ground-fault protection, grounding system design, metering, and other design elements
- Create and review shop drawings and designs for switchgear, transformers, reclosers, and other major electrical equipment
- Review and interpret design drawings, specifications, and documents related to project design
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
- Create and maintain a template library of drawings and calculations required for projects at the various stages of development, design, and construction
- Assist engineering team with validation of BoQ (bill of quantities)
- Assist engineering team with validating FAC-009 facility rating form against installed equipment ratings and collect all supporting documents
- Analyze complex engineering problems and offer effective and efficient resolutions in a timely manner while working on several projects at once
- Assist with maintaining and improving existing guidelines and specificatio
- Implement industry and company best practices consistent with the central technical direction initiative
- Participate in project meetings and conference calls
- Conduct value-engineering studies of alternative design approaches
- Provide internal review of interconnection studies and impact to project design
- Provide support on meeting the requirements of applicable Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards and assist during NERC audits as necessary
- Assist with ProjectWise document controls systems/processes
- Provide support to operating facilities as needed

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineering license is preferred, in any state
- 2 - 4 years of solar electrical design engineering experience
- Experience working with medium-voltage power systems
- Solar and wind design experience is preferred
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering modeling software such as Helios 3D, ETAP, CYME, and WinIGS is a plus
- Understanding of applicable industry standards and codes including Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
