Deputy Health & Safety Manager required by our Client in the Renewables Sector to be assigned on a Contract to Permanent basis, located in Bridgeport, CT


Duration:           long term contract to permanent employment



Together with the Project Health and Safety Manager, the Deputy Health and Safety Manager will lead the Health and Safety Engineering discipline within the offshore project team. The Deputy H&S Manager will drive project performance by executing health and safety programs at the project level according to relevant H&S programs and US legal requirements both onshore and offshore. The Deputy H&S Manager will enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety through analyzing operational errors to identify a more effective and efficient way of operating. Assist in the compliance of on-site health and safety activities both onshore and offshore. Command a responsibility during times when health & safety incidents may occur and delegate responsibility to work package specific H&S Engineers.


  • Assist the Project H&S Manager with implementation of H&S programs.
  • Provide H&S input for detail design engineering across packages.  
  • Assist in onboarding project package specific H&S Engineer positions.
  • Monitor progress and advise on noncompliance issues that may impact project safety performance.
  • Assist the construction work package’s in maintaining compliance with Company, Contractor, and Local Authorities’ safety requirements, regulations, and expectations.
  • Coach and advise Contractor and Subcontractors to effectively establish, communicate, and implement safety expectations and initiatives.
  • Monitor and stimulate the execution of safety policies, rules, and procedures; monitor conformance with project H&S plans and implement improvements where appropriate.
  • Risk identification and mitigation, conducting and supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis and development of lessons learned.
  • Share lesson learned and support in developing good practices and relevant preventative measures across projects.
  • Continuously evaluate industry standards and how they impact the different project work packages.
  • Fostering safety culture through mentoring and coaching project team members, contractors and other stakeholders.


Possess a B. Sc. or B. Eng. degree from an accredited institution (required) with one of the following (or related concentrations):

    • Occupational Safety and Health Management
    • Construction Safety/Fire Sciences
    • Civil Engineering
    • Environmental Safety Management
    • Safety Engineering/Technology including human factor design
    • Industrial Hygiene/Safety
  • Offshore wind, offshore oil and gas, maritime vessel and / or port and terminal experience in construction, transportation, manufacturing, logistics, and commissioning required:
    • 5 years industry experience with large scale projects
    • 3 years management and leadership experience
    • Subject matter expert in H&S management systems
    • Experience in renewable energy or offshore construction is preferred
    • Knowledge in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery and process safety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, ergonomics, and occupational health.
  • Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of relevant Federal, State and Local H&S legislation.
  • Experience of mechanical, electrical, and technical systems, process engineering and advising on H&S technical matters.
  • Experience with implementing H&S programs using behaviour-based safety methodology.
  • Experience leading incident investigations, root cause analysis and development of lessons learned.
