OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGER required by our Client based in the oil and gas industry, to be hired on a full-time basis, located in Houston, TX.

Duration: Permanent

POSITION SCOPE

Responsible for the various risks that can arise from the company's ordinary business activities including personnel and systems.

PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Identify operational risks by way of internal system failures and/or inadequacies, existing processes, and/or external events.
  • Implement operational risk controls with the intent to minimize market losses highlighting company limits usage, excesses and risk procedures.
  • Create analytical tools and comprehensive reports intended to measure and quantify risk exposure.
  • Ensure operational risk metrics are presented to risk staff and senior management in timely manner.
  • Routinely provide high-level risk forecast report intended to proactively mitigate potential losses across multiple business areas and functions to senior management.
  • Adapt to current developments and future directions in operational risk management.
  • Advising on the risk characteristics on complex deals/trades and reporting operational information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee the operational risk team to perform daily tasks and manage all respective reporting.
  • Be involved and occasionally serve as key project stakeholder in ERTM and reporting development.
  • Work closely with other risk and front office staff to quantify the risk spectrum as necessary.
  • Support risk review and advice on sign offs on any expansions or significant variations to existing portfolios, including new products and market expansions
  • Develop and maintain a stress and scenario testing framework
  • Review the liability-based benchmarks
  • Analyze potential sources of losses from a procedural, systems, and personnel perspective.
  • Provide operational risk measurement for trading portfolios.
  • Support policy specialist and risk review teams.
  • Report operational risk metrics to senior management.
  • Remain up to date on company limits usage, excesses and risk procedures.
  • Work closely with other risk and front office staff to quantify the risk spectrum as necessary.
  • Develop strong understanding of CFEi compliance and legal policies.
  • Serve as key support for all risk system development and testing with mission to promote efficiencies.

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commodities risk experience (2+ years) ideally from a trading company. Actuarial consultancy or ratings agency also acceptable.
  • Sound understanding of investment fundamentals, asset classes, sectors and principles.
  • Good understanding of risk management methodologies including VaR.
  • Good understanding of risk-based economic models including Solvency II. Significant experience with quantitative risk modelling, ideally with practical experience with stochastic risk models.
  • Graduate degree or professional qualifications in financial modelling, economics, quantitative risk or equivalent.
  • Understand standard industry contracts:
    • NAESB
    • EEI
    • ISDA
    • Regulated contract from ISO’s
  • Working knowledge of energy risk metrics/ models.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office products with emphasis on Excel, Access, and VBA is a plus.
  • Good knowledge in Matlab, Python, R and SQL.
  • Attention to detail and respect for due diligence to follow up on any risk related anomalies.
  • High level of confidence and ability to articulate complex ideas in a cohesive and concise manner.
  • Meticulous approach to all tasks at hand.
  • Excellent communication skill, good analytical mind, ability to operate in fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and be able to work with various individuals /teams across the organization.
  • The ideal candidate must have strong desire to learn, be self-sufficient, and enthusiastic about CFEi energy business.
