OPERATIONAL RISK JUNIOR ANALYST required by our Client, an oil and gas company, to be hired on a full-time basis, located in Houston, TX

Duration: Permanent

PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Assist in analysis of potential sources of losses from a procedural, systems, and personnel perspective.
  • Interact with commercial groups to understand markets, trends, and any likely open exposures or threats as needed.
  • Monitor global capital markets to forecast emerging risks.
  • Provide customized risk forecast reports to various internal groups
  • Determine, report, and respond effectively to risks involved across the business area.
  • Conduct routine analysis using historical data and present findings.
  • Provide operational risk measurement for trading portfolios.
  • Support policy specialist and risk review teams.
  • Serve as backup to report operational risk metrics to senior management.
  • Remain up to date on company limits usage, excesses and risk procedures.
  • Maintain systems used to retrieve financial statistical data quantitatively and qualitatively.
  • Work with other risk and front office staff to quantify the risk spectrum as necessary.
  • Develop strong understanding of company compliance and legal policies.
  • Occasionally serve as key support for all risk system development and testing with mission to promote efficiencies.

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commodities risk experience (0-2 years) ideally from a trading company. Actuarial consultancy or ratings agency also acceptable.
  • Degree or professional qualifications in financial modelling, economics, quantitative risk or equivalent.
  • Ability to learn energy risk metrics/ models.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office products with emphasis on Excel, Access, and VBA is a plus.
  • Fair knowledge in Matlab, Python, R and SQL.
  • Attention to detail and respect for due diligence to follow up on any risk related anomalies.
  • High level of confidence and ability to articulate complex ideas in a cohesive and concise manner. Attention to detail.
  • Meticulous approach to all tasks at hand.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and be able to work with various individuals /teams across the organization.
  • The ideal candidate must have strong desire to learn, be self-sufficient, and enthusiastic about company energy business.
