MECHANICAL ENGINEER required by our Client, a Renewable company, to be assigned on a Contract basis, located in Boston, Massachusetts.

POSITION SCOPE

Mechanical Engineer will support the wind turbine team during the execution of our Clients Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Massachusetts, USA. This individual will act as the technical expert within a team of engineers and project managers that are responsible for the implementation of the project Turbine Supply Agreement (TSA); supporting decision making on all activities from design, manufacturing through assembly and offshore installation works until final hand over to operations team. The Mechanical Engineer will be working as part of the project execution team based in Boston, MA with activities in multiple locations across Europe and USA. The position will require travel to various locations within the USA and overseas with the main focus in France and Spain.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanical Engineer will provide support to the Package Lead and Technical Lead in the delivery of the package. The main responsibilities will be:

Manage technical (mechanical) aspects/requirements in the Turbine Supply Agreement, and technical interfaces with the supplier.

Lead/support interface design processes between the WTG package and other packages, e.g. tower/foundation, installation etc.

Support the overall project certification process liaising with the Certified Verification Agency (CVA) and turbine supplier.

Monitor the WTG technology development taking part in Technical Due Diligences

Represent the Project in front of the WTG supplier in technical forums.

Ensure the qualification and acceptance of design modifications in relation to mechanical design.

To adhere to project program requirements.

Technical risks management.

Coordination of engineering resources (both internal and external) to address technical issues.

Recommend technical solutions or changes to the project management.

Advise WTG Quality Manager and WTG Package Manager on the impact of technical risks and propose solutions.

Contribute to the establishment of quality assurance system with procedures and requirements for turbine acceptance, and assist in the revision of quality documentation during the manufacturing and installation.

Liaise with external professionals who provide technical expertise and project support in evaluation of operational and performance issues.

Ensure that all recommendations are documented and sufficient due diligence exists to support decisions (whether internal or external diligence).

 

Requirements:

 

Reporting on progress to WTG Technical Lead.

Represent WTG package in technical meetings both internally and with the suppliers.

Coordinate technical communication exchanged with supplier.

Monitor WTG design modifications proposals, and prepare reports assessing its suitability for the Project.

Carry out documentation reviews of quality dossiers provided by the turbine supplier

Review technical and contract documents and specifications.

Attend to the audits, inspections, and First Article Inspection (FAI) for relevant WTG components.

Review of non-conformities and evaluate proposed corrective actions.

Participate in relevant walk downs.

Support with the project certification

Organize and participate in technical workshops/meetings with the WTG supplier.

Attend HAZID´s / HAZOP´s

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

 

Educated to Degree level in mechanical engineering (preferred), other engineering degrees, or similar.

2 years of wind industry experience (WTG´s, offshore wind preferable).

IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT-based project management software.

Flexibility to travel both in US and overseas.

Extensive technical and practical knowledge of wind turbine technology.

Experience in offshore wind turbines and offshore windfarm construction.

Good knowledge of industry standards and offshore regulations.

Knowledge of US construction standards and regulations.

Knowledge of US health and safety and environmental legislation/regulations (i.e. OSHA).

Experience of working in a team and delivering against targets and reporting.

Pro-active and diligent approach.

Good interpersonal skills.

Report writing and presentation skills.

Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

HSE training for managing site construction works e.g. OSHA Construction Industry Certificate (preferable).
