MANAGER- OSW OPS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING required by our Client a Renewables company, to be assigned on a Permanent basis, located in Boston, MA.

Title of Line Manager – Director – Offshore Operations Engineering

POSITION SCOPE

The Manager of Operations Electrical Engineering role is focused on assisting with the delivery of operational requirements in the US Offshore business. Working with Contractors and multiple departments within Offshore Operations and Global Services to ensure that our Client’s long term asset value and production revenue is maximized.

Belonging to the Offshore Operations Team and the Global Asset Integrity Management Department Team, the Manager of Operations Electrical Engineering will be responsible for defining and implementing robust and cost effective engineering strategies for the operational requirements including management of contractors and associated interfaces, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.

The Manager of Operations Electrical Engineering is responsible for providing a good quality, consistent service across offshore projects.

The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across US, UK and the rest of the world. The position may require travel to various locations.

Offshore industry is still relatively immature, and a key focus is on driving down cost. This role will play a large part in developing initiatives to reduce the cost of service during the operational phase.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivery of robust and cost effective engineering strategies for the operational requirements, providing engineering support, assistance and recommendations to ensure delivery within time, to budget and quality following industry best practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance’

Develop technical specifications for maintenance agreements.

Developing HSE strategies for operations and ensuring a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.

Provide advice on operational solutions / risk levels affecting technical integrity or asset performance to Principal Project Managers to ensure that cost effective solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood.

Make technical recommendations to Project Managers based on the analyzed asset integrity status, production and other KPIs.

Support the coordination of EPC interfaces and Project Services Engineering Team to ensure the operational requirements are identified, fully evaluated, and actioned during project execution.

Liaise with the Global Asset Integrity Management Department Team ensuring lessons learnt and best practices are capture and shared across the different Offshore Projects.

Deliver technical due diligence to the handover from construction and the transition through end of warranty of offshore wind assets.

Ensure that all assessment, advice and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.

Manage and resolve a range of issues on projects covering technical and operational matters related to Operations.

At short notice, act upon and deliver ad-hoc tasks/projects without losing focus on major ongoing projects.

Successfully manage the expectations of the Project Managers with regards to project delivery.

Manage wide range of data, quick analysis capacity and creativity for highlight major decision making levers.

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

Degree and professional qualification in relevant Electrical/Power System Engineering, Masters Degree is preferred

3-5 years of experience in Power systems.

Postgraduate experience, preferably in operation of wind farms.

Sound knowledge of a relevant area of technical specialty (eg. Structures, cables, High, Voltage, Scada, Drivetrains, Electronics, Data analysis)

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Some experience in engineering industry, academia, or consultancy

Developed report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize a parameters and drivers impacting the scope of works.

Good organizational and operational skills with the ability to link this awareness to technical judgement and decision making.

Good planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implements mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems.

Ability to support the management of a scope of works which require interface and coordination.

Advice on the impact of technical/ specialist risks and issues and the viability of solutions recommended.

Experience and understanding of technical due diligence.

Experience of renewables / power generation industry preferred.

Experience of offshore wind sector

Knowledge of H&S and environmental legislation associated with marine/offshore operations projects

Some experience of offshore wind operations preferred.

Experience of working in teams involved in large projects in international environments

Flexible to travel around the US and overseas

Internal:

Coordinate activities on wind farm and wind turbine Balance of Plant matters.

Coordinate support and key expertise from various Disciplines (electrical, civil, mechanical, etc.) to ensure technical compliance to minimise costs/ risks and to secure best practice and value from investments

Collaborate with Operations team members to ensure requirements are specified and delivered and assets are effectively transferred into operation to deliver business returns

Collaborate with Operations team members for effective and efficient deployment of resources and knowledge development/ retention

Collaborate with Contract Managers to aid their procurement and management of key contracts and terms/ specification to secure best value and minimise costs/ risks

Coordinate with HSQE advisors to comply with standards and minimise legal/ regulatory risks

External:

Management of Suppliers and contractors

Management of Consultants/technical advisors to deliver key advice and compliance
