ISBL CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT (ONSHORE EPC) required by our Client, an Oil and Gas Operator, to be assigned on a Contract basis, located in Afungi, Mozambique. Rotation 28/28

Duration: 12 months



The position is for an ISBL Construction Superintendent leading and supporting the execution of the LNG ISBL works, inclusive of a variety of disciplines, typically – early works, land survey, civil, underground services, roads, buildings, infrastructure, interconnects, piping, Static & rotating equipment, structural steel and piping etc. The role requires demonstrable safety leadership that sets a high benchmark to be sustained throughout the project. Reporting to the Onshore LNG ISBL Project Manager, the Construction Superintendent is responsible for the interface coordination and construction management of the activities to support the planned sequence of work packages.



The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) or more years’ experience in the construction of civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical works as described above and also throughout LNG, Oil and Gas and/or Petrochemical facilities.


Specific experience and expertise in the following areas is required:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in greenfield early works infrastructure, design, and execution phases of O&G Major Capital Projects.
  • Previous experience in a similar role(s) on a large-scale project(s) with a history of demonstrable safety leadership,
  • Strong culture in HSE values and safety leadership
  • An excellent understanding of financial controls, budgets, project schedules
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Interface Management plans, processes, tools, and execution.
  • Excellent organization, communication, co-ordination, planning and reporting skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and influence team members and develop an effective culture through mutual respect and commitment
  • Foster teamwork and build trust internally and externally with all key stakeholders
  • Effective communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence critical decision agreements regarding safety, schedule, and cost
  • Recognize diversity of opinions and the varied approaches to achieving the Project objectives
  • Ability to schedule priorities and multi-task within the contract packages
  • Knowledge of appropriate codes, standards and good construction and engineering practices specifically within the oil and gas construction industry
  • Advanced computer skills for MS office, Adobe, and Database software applications
  • Knowledge of project completions and commissioning interfaces would be advantageous.

Service Location & Schedule

SERVICES to be performed either on-site at Afungi (Northern Mozambique, province of Cabo Delgado)

Tentative SERVICES start date: Immediate

Services schedule:

If Afungi based: rotational working minimum 12 hours a day 28 days on / 28 days off, working 180 days in a year (or otherwise instructed by COMPANY)



  • Safety leadership of EPC contractors to achieve best in class safety performance in the field
  • Support and assure the project HSSE and Quality Assurance objectives are being followed
  • Develop strong working relationships with upstream and downstream EPC Contractor interface management teams
  • Assist LNG Project Manager’s as required in the management of the overall Construction program and key interface deliverables
  • Identify interface areas and associated stakeholders, including engineering, expediting and construction package coordination
  • Confirm roles and responsibilities for each EPC Contractors to limit interface conflict
  • Apply and implement management systems & practices, to enhance the flow of information and data across project delivery teams, functional groups, and external contractors.
  • Provide guidance to the stakeholder & EPC teams site activities, risks, and opportunities
  • Liaise with EPC Contractor disciplines, through Project Engineers, to identify all internal/external interfaces points to be managed
  • Coordinate and review Contractor Management Plans and documents.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the EPC Contractor’s management processes
  • Attend necessary construction planning meetings to ensure a proper follow-up of the issues and resolutions.
  • Develop registers/trackers to ensure the responsible parties are identified
  • Escalate any issues to Contractor’s management team and Company that cannot be resolved
  • Focal point for Project interfaces that engage Client Operations Teams
  • Communicate lessons learned and implement continuous improvements where possible
  • Always adhere to the Company Business Principles under Conduct, Our People, Society and HSSE and to participate in relevant training as required.
  • Report incidents and near misses immediately,
  • Comply with a duty of care to ensure that safe practice is always adhered to. 
  • In addition to any specific accountability for HSSE, be accountable for ensuring that they adopt exemplary safe behaviors,
