Title of Line Manager Senior Director, Offshore Operations
This role will lead on the development and implementation of Operation and maintenance (“O&M”) technical requirements and methodologies in the design, construction and operations phase of the offshore projects. This role will be responsible for creating maintenance and asset management strategies for maximising the offshore wind profitability whilst minimising the technical risk of assets failing. This will include interfacing with teams from the Construction, Technical Services and O&M readiness and site teams to ensure turbines, cables, Scada, foundations and electrical equipment are designed, constructed and operated as required for the long-term profitability of the projects.
The Offshore Operations Engineering Director will be responsible for building the team: a team of specialists from a range of disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical, subsea, offshore equipment, logistics, performance analysis).This team will liaise with the wider O&M Global team for implementing lessons learned from Iberdrola’s group projects in the US projects and exchanging best practices.
The role is to support the O&M of the offshore wind projects under development in the USA and in the early years will consist of giving technical support to the projects’ O&M teams whilst they develop the O&M strategies and maintenance costs assessment to secure a positive Financial Close and then through the O&M readiness phase of the projects leading up to the operational phase.
Once the projects are in the operational phase, the role holds the responsibility on providing the technical expertise to contribute to the overall performance of the offshore wind farms operated by our Client, including availability, production, operational budget and revenues.
The role will provide technical leadership for a range of engineering disciplines relating to O&M to ensure a level of standardisation of approach, delivery and quality across the global project portfolio. Close liaison and relationships with the rest of the team will be necessary and the role will be expected to contribute and learn from the tasks Offshore Ops Engineering covers in the management of technical support activities for already operational windfarms from our Clients affiliate companies.
Delivery of robust and cost effective engineering strategies for the operational requirements, providing engineering support, assistance and recommendations to ensure delivery within time, to budget and quality following industry best practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance’
Implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices and quality requirements.
Develop technical specifications for maintenance agreements.
Developing technical specifications for the HSE strategies for operations and ensuring a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.
Provide advice on operational solutions / risk levels affecting technical integrity or asset performance to Principal Project Managers to ensure that cost effective solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood.
Make technical recommendations to Principal Project Managers based on the analysed asset integrity status, production and other KPIs
Support the coordination of EPC interfaces and Project Services Engineering Team to ensure the operational requirements are identified, fully evaluated and actioned during project execution.
Liaise with the Global Asset Integrity Management Department Team ensuring lessons learnt and best practices are capture and shared across the different Offshore Projects.
Deliver technical due diligence to the handover from construction and the transition through end of warranty of offshore wind assets.
Ensure that all assessment, advice and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.
Support the Offshore Operations team in developing the O&M strategy via:
O&M technical input into turbine selection to ensure they meet industry standards and are safe to operate and maintain.
Getting advantage of other owners and services provider’s experiences to ensure performance on the O&M strategy decisions.
Provide the technical maintenance requirements to allow OPEX costs to be built, use experience and/or analysis to estimate unscheduled costs.
Responsible for providing operational projects with technical support to best respond to serious technical issues in the windfarms in order to minimise production loss and risk to the assets. Ensure that the experience of the Global Technical Services team is leveraged in the offshore and new technology environment.
Define the detailed maintenance required for the contracts to be placed on the foundations, cables, offshore substations and associated equipment. Responsible for ensuring it is compliant with the requirements of regulatory and statutory bodies.
Responsible for ensuring technically competent suppliers are selected.
Form productive relationships with key service providers; liaising with them in technical workshops and ensuring their technical service is of the highest quality.
Support the Offshore Operations Management ensuring operational risks are identified and mitigated as well as working to ensure the assets are handed over in highest quality state.
Planning and delivery of the Offshore Operations Engineering organization in the USA
Contribute to the Asset Integrity Management Strategy to identify and implement initiatives to:
Improve the way offshore projects are designed for operations.
Strengthen the technical performance of sites across Iberdrola Renewables offshore portfolio.
Actively participate in lessons learnt sessions to continually improve business practices and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Special Requirements (not mandatory)
Postgraduate experience, preferably in operation and Maintenance of wind farms.
Experience of offshore wind sector
Knowledge of H&S and environmental legislation associated with marine/offshore operations projects

Knowledge and experience of engineering contracts
Minimum Criteria (mandatory)
Degree in relevant maths, engineering or Physical Science discipline
Flexible to travel around the US and overseas
